The Darwin Awards for 2007 have been announced. But don’t worry, there will be plenty more contenders for 2008, I’m certain of it.

The Lone Server
A video that is a humorous look at the march of computer progress as seen by Windows Server 2003. Raised a smile with me, anyway. -
The Truth Refreshes
Over at The Quackometer, a new homeopathy site is reviewed: FairDeal Homeopathy. Clearly a refreshing change from the usual claims made by homeopaths. However, something tells me that this is probably a spoof. Genuine homeopaths wouldn’t be so genuine, surely?Oh, and while you’re over at the Quackometer’s review, don’t forget to check out Bovine Descenders. Obviously a service that I need to be aware of around here. -
Hook, Line and Rapture
The ever-dependable Pat Condell aiming some barbs at a well-deserved target.Update: August 2013. I’ve long stopped watching Condell’s videos. It seems to me he has crossed the line into prejudiced argument. Avicenna puts his finger on it. -
Duelity
A wry take on the duel between science and religion. For best results, go to the Duelity web site, choose Watch, and then Duelity to see the two views unfold in parallel…(hat tip to Dangerous Intersection for the link) -
Animator vs Animation
A clever and ingenious little Flash film by Alan Becker. -
You Are My Sunshine
How to get the message across about energy efficiency? Well, here’s one way that combines humour with a serious message…(hat tip to the Osocio Blog) -
Vote Now
It’s time for the New Humanist’s Annual Bad Faith Award. Go and cast your vote now. A glittering lineup (apart from the obvious Groucho Marx touch of Richard Dawkins’ nomination to the list). It’s a difficult choice. I almost went for the Bishop of Carlisle, but he’s clearly deluded. In the end I went for Archbishop Francisco Chimoio on the grounds that he is more likely to have actively done harm to his flock by claiming that condoms are deliberately infected with HIV. -
Missing the Cluetrain
It seems as though many of my (British) countrymen and women are in high dudgeon over this Eurostar advert. Frankly, it reflects badly on their own insularism and ignorance. The advert is placed in Brussels, and anyone with a smidgeon of nous would understand that it’s a riff on the Manneken Pis.Sorry, can I just apologise for my fellow countrypersons who clearly have no sense of humour or knowledge of their fellow Europeans whatsoever. -
Hema’s Product Page
I don’t generally like web pages that use lots of Flash technology, but I confess that I do like this product page of Hema (a Dutch store – rather like a slightly upmarket Woolworths). Do go and visit, and wait a moment for the fun to start…Edit: alas, this page no longer works… -
Reductio ad Absurdum
Jesus and Mo have a Eureka! moment… -
Coder or Killer?
This little quiz shows you the faces of ten people, and invites you to identify which of two groups they belong to. They are either inventors of computer programming languages, or they are serial killers. I got 50% right. Could do better, obviously.(hat tip to Robert for the link) -
What’s Good About Religion?
I do like Pat Condell’s riffs on religion… I just wish I shared his optimism.Update: August 2013. I’ve long stopped watching Condell’s videos. It seems to me he has crossed the line into prejudiced argument. Avicenna puts his finger on it. -
Carlitopolis
A short film. I laughed – loudly – I am an evil person. -
Stay The Course
Mr. Deity is back. -
A New Party Game
I can’t resist passing on this idea for a new party game. The fact that I scored extra points for using the word turgidity has absolutely nothing to do with my enthusiasm. It’s simply a great game… honest. -
And Today’s Theme…
… is apparently: Rubber. At least, that’s the conclusion I came to after reading Improbable Research followed by A Good Poop. And, realising that the preceding sentence is open to misinterpretation, I’d just like to point out that there are two web sites mentioned in it.
